Study Confirms Higher Risk Of Dengue in Kids Who Got Sanofi Vaccine

“CHICAGO (Reuters) – An analysis of data on Sanofi’s dengue vaccine, which has been given to more than 800,000 school children in the Philippines, confirms it increases the risk of hospitalization and severe dengue in those who had never previously been infected with the mosquito-borne virus.”

On its first introduction in this country, there were many individuals and institutions who enthusiastically advocated this vaccine, with advertisement campaigns, and getting wannabe “experts” to endorse the vaccine citing supportive evidence while disingenuously hiding reports of adverse effects. 

I am sad that vast research efforts have not yet yielded a useful*  vaccine and I am equally sad it has been promoted prematurely giving more ammunition to the increasingly strident anti-vaxers who can cite this concern as evidence that ALL vaccines are bad.

 

*this vaccine may offer some benefits to individuals who have previously contracted dengue fever.
